Web 3.0 Meaning: A New Era In The Internet World

Web 3.0 is now being discussed a lot in the world of technology after The Metaverse. People all over the world are starting to know about it. According to reports, this is the next generation of the World Wide Web, which can replace Web 2.0 in the coming times. Web 3.0 is in the discussion because it is being said that the control of the data will be with the people themselves rather than any corporate or government. Also, another advantage of this is that you will be able to access using internet media, email, shopping sites, etc., through a single account. It is because of these features that Web 3.0 is in the discussion. So today we will try to know about it in detail.

Web 3.0

What is web 3.0?

In the Internet world, this word has made people very excited. So let’s find out what it is. The Internet we are using online now is web 2.0. Web 3.0 is a world beyond Web 2.0. In a way, this is the next era of the Internet. Such applications are often based on a technology called Ethereum. There is also a good thing with this, it will not be controlled by any central power, but the users themselves will have control over the data. However, it can also be taken as a negative effect as it can increase cybercrime.

What is the difference between web 2.0 and web 3.0?

We have done everything online during the corona pandemic. Since then, online services have become an integral part of our everyday life. Everything is online like shopping, ordering food, watching movies, using internet media, buying electric stuff, etc. You would know that most online services, such as email, the Internet, and shopping, run on the cloud. Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and other platforms provide cloud services. In short, any information that users share on such platforms is stored with the cloud provider used by the online service. We call this version of the Internet Web 2.0. And right now, we are using the Internet, and they are doing it through this web 2.0. Now let’s talk about 3.0, the next version of 2.0.

If we compare these two, then while cloud platform or on-premises infrastructure forms the foundation of Web2 services, in Web3, all services are built on Blockchain. Another key point is that web 2.0 is handled by on-premise companies/organizations, i.e., centralized. Whereas in Web 3.0, data is distributed across the network through Blockchain. Blockchains are also used in cryptocurrency transactions. So web 3.0 crypto coins are important for cryptocurrencies. But it is much more than that. The best example is NFTs, i.e. non-fungible tokens, which are bought using web 3.0 crypto coins.

What will change with the advent of Web 3?

To understand sub 3.0, we will first understand web1 and web2. Web 1 and 2.0 are the previous versions of the Internet, running from 1990 till today. At the beginning of the last decade of the last century, people were new to the Internet, which was the beginning of Web 1. There were more static pages on the Internet at that time as there was no room for conversation. Then in the early 2000s, Web 2.0 and big companies like Facebook came with it. When users search, shop, or upload videos and photos on the Internet, they generate large amounts of content or data. All this data is stored in companies’ servers with whom people interact. It means that the middlemen become the custodians of the users’ data and make a profit.
