There are just two days left for the Tokyo Olympics to start. Even though this game is taking place in 2021 but its name is Tokyo Summer Olympics 2020. The game which was scheduled to be held from 24 July to 9 August 2020 due to Covid will now take place from 23 July to 8 August 2021. The Indian team has reached Japan, the capital of Tokyo, on a special plane from New Delhi. This time India will participate in 69 events of 18 sports. India’s 228-member contingent will participate in the Tokyo Olympics, which includes 119 players. Now, this is India’s biggest squad ever.
Who started this campaign?
The #Cheer4India campaign was started in India to support the players participating from the Indian side in the Tokyo games. The first Cheer 4 India campaign was launched by Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in Imphal. Through his Twitter account, he said that- ‘The campaign will include a quiz on the Olympics, a fan engagement drive and an Olympic symposium where the public can participate. People can also click their selfies at the Selfie Points being set up under the ‘Cheer 4 India’ campaign to show their support for the athletes.’
In addition, GM NER ( North Eastern Railway) VK Tripathi, took a selfie at a selfie point at GM, NER office in Gorakhpur. To motivate the players in the Tokyo Olympics games, NER is creating selfie points at important railway stations and stadiums. This will definitely create sports awareness among the people and will help them to motivate the players as well.
And now people from all over India are becoming a part of this campaign. Not only the general public, our Indian players who have reached Tokyo are also becoming a part of this campaign by taking selfies and photos.
Also, Sachin Tendulkar cheered the Indian athlete through a video message. Those athletes will exert themselves, you should encourage them. Come on India, let’s #cheer4India.
