Being a mother is one of the happiest feelings in life. The love of mother and child is only available to the lucky ones in the world. Getting a mother’s love is the most precious thing in life. Everyone has been hearing since childhood that mother has medicine for every disease. And today new research has proved this thing. How deep is the effect of mother’s love, it can be known from this new research. The results of the research have been published in the journal Scientific Reports. It has been found in this that if the child born prematurely, that is, a premature child, hears the voice of the mother, then his suffering is reduced.
Researchers from the University of Geneva, in collaboration with Italy’s Parini Hospital and the University of Valle d’Aosta, were finding out that how to reduce pain in a premature child. After all, what should be done for the child so that his pain can be reduced.
What kind of difficulties do babies face when they are born prematurely?
If a baby is born before 37 weeks of pregnancy, the baby is usually placed in an incubator for intensive care. During that time that premature child has to go through a lot of stressful procedures. This involves inserting a needle and inserting a feeding tube to collect a blood sample. This not only causes pain to the child but also affects his development. During this, the team of researchers was keeping an eye on whether there should be a connection with the voice between the mother and the child. With this, they saw that the child found it easier to bear the pain.
How did they assess?
To corroborate this hypothesis, the team of researchers asked the mothers of 20 premature children at Parini Hospital to stay near the baby while the needle was pricked while taking a blood sample. It was studied in three phases so that its comparative review could be done. In the first phase, the child was injected with a needle in the absence of the mother. In the second phase, the mother was asked to talk to the child while pricking the needle. Similarly, in the third stage, the mother was asked to sing a song or a lullaby for the child.
The sequence of talking or singing lullabies was changed frequently. During this, the intensity of the mother’s voice was also measured so that the sound of machines can also be covered in Incentive Care. After this, the researchers tried to test whether the child’s experience of pain was reduced in the presence of the mother. For this, they used the Preterm Infant Pain Profile (PIPP). In this, a code grading from zero to 21 was done for the measurement of facial expressions, physical parameters, etc., so that the child’s pain could be detected.
What are the results in the presence of the mother?
The results in this experiment were very important. In the first phase, PIPP was 4.5 in the absence of the mother. Whereas in the second phase i.e. the child talking to the mother, this PIPP decreased to 3. And in the third stage, the PIPP was 3.8 on the lullaby song. The reason for this difference may be that the child’s feeling on singing mother’s song or lullaby is not properly expressed due to rhythmicity.
This research can prove to be very important for such a child. Such a premature child has to face a lot of pain after coming into the world. In such a situation, the presence of the mother can reduce her pain.
