करीबन 116 साल पहले जब भारत ने सन् 1900 में पेरिस ओलिंपिक में पहली बार भाग लिया था तब पहली बार में ही भारत ने दो सिल्वर मेडल अपने नाम कर लिए थे। और ये दोनों ही मेडल नॉर्मन प्रिचार्ड नाम के एक सख्शियत (अंग्रेज) ने दिलाया था। और तभी से कहा जाता है कि भारत का पहला ओलम्पिक जीत एक विदेशी ने दिलाया । कहानी यूँ है कि नॉर्मन प्रिचार्ड का जन्म 23 जून 1877 को कोलकाता के अलीपुर नामक स्थान में हुआ था । सन् 1894 से लेकर सन् 1900 तक लगातार बंगाल के लिए 100 मी. फर्राटा दौड़ में भाग लेकर दौड़ जीती थी। और साथ ही उन्होंने 440 मी. और 120 मी. हर्डल रेस में भी अपना हुनर दिखा कर जलवा बिखेरा था। वर्ष 1900 में पेरिस में ओयोजित ओलिंपिक में प्रिचार्ड ने इंडिया की तरफ से शिरकत की और जीत हासिल की। उसके बाद वर्ष 1905 में वे अपने परिवार के साथ वापस ब्रिटेन चले गए। इस तरह से प्रिचार्ड विदेशी होते हुए भी ओलिं...
