Today is the birthday of famous Hindi film actress Kajol Devgan. She is one of the most successful actresses in the history of Bollywood. Although Kajol’s parents were associated with the film world, Kajol has made her own identity in Hindi cinema on her talent. She has won 6 Filmfare Awards. Apart from this, she has also won many other awards. In 2011, she awarded the country’s fourth-highest civilian honor, the Padma Shri.
Kajol was born on 5 August 1975 in Bombay city of Maharashtra. Kajol’s father’s name was Shomu Mukherjee who was a director, writer, and producer. His mother’s name is Tanuja. Tanuja is also a well-known actress of her time who has won many awards. Kajol’s sister’s name is Tanisha Mukherjee. Tanisha is also an actress like Kajol and her mother Tanuja. From Kajol’s maternal grandparents, aunts, to great-grandmothers, uncles, cousins, all are associated with the film world. Perhaps this is the reason why Kajol grew up watching the world of films since childhood.
Kajol had her early education at St. Joseph’s Convent School, Panchgani, a boarding school. Apart from studies, she became interested in extra-curricular activities. She also learned the dance. Her parents separated when she was young. After that Kajol grew up in her maternal grandparents’ house. Kajol’s maternal grandmother loved her very much. She never let Kajol feel that her mother has gone out. Accordingly, growing up between two different cultures, Kajol inherited “Maharashtrian practicality” from her mother and “Bengali flair” from her father.
Kajol’s First Film
In the early 1990s, Tanuja tried to direct a film to launch her as an actress. Then Kajol would have been around 15 years old. Rahul Rawail was then thinking of making a film named Bekhudi. When Kajol went to the photographer’s studio, she met Gautam Rajadhyaksha. He wrote the script of Bekhudi. Gautam Ji cast Kajol the same. When Kajol started shooting for the film, her school was on summer vacation for two months. Then, Kajol thought that after the shooting of this film, she would join the school. But she chose films as his career. Because of this, his studies were left in the middle. Then, she regrets that decision.
She has said in a newspaper that “when I started working, I realized the importance of education. I realized what I should have done. I think it was my fault.” Bekhudi was released in 1992. Kajol’s mother Tanuja also starred in that film. Kajol did the role of a heroine in which she named the role Radhika. This film of his was a bad flop at the box office. But Kajol received a positive response for her performance in this film.
