The Brother and sister relation is the most sacred relationship in the world. To make this relationship stronger, we celebrate The Festival Of Rakshabandhan. Like this Rakshabandhan, another festival is celebrated for brother and sister, which is named Bhai Dooj. The five-day celebration of Diwali ends with Bhai Dooj. This festival is also called Yama Dwitiya. The festival of Bhai Dooj is celebrated two days after the festival of Diwali. It is called Yama Dwitiya because, on this day, there is a law to worship the god of death, Yamraj, and his sister, the Yamuna. Story Of Bhai Dooj (2021)
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Surya Dev was married to a girl named Sangya. But Sangya was not happy with her life, and she could not hold the fire of Lord Surya. So she thought that she would do penance and get a boon by penance so that she could go nearer to Lord Surya. Lord Sun and Sangya had two children, Yama, who is now known as Yama, the god of death, and the other, Yamuna, who is now known as Mother Yamuna. When Sangya was going to the forest to do penance, to protect her husband and children, she made a girl like herself, whose name was Chhaya. Thus Chhaya stays with Lord God and her children. Chhaya and Surya Dev also had some children of their own. Hence Chhaya did not love Yama and Yamuna at all.
On the other hand, Yama and Yamuna had a deep love for each other. Those two siblings were ready to do anything for each other. When Yama and Yamuna grew up, Yamuna got married, and Yama became the god of death. Goddess Yamuna had called her brother Yamraj several times in her in-laws’ house, but due to being busy with work, Yamraj could not go to meet his sister. Then once, Mother Yamuna invited her brother for a meal and took his promise that he would have to come to his sister’s house.
Importance Of Bhaiya Dooj
Then Yamraj started going towards Yamuna’s house to follow his sister’s promise. When he came out of Yamlok, he freed many living beings from the torture he met on the way. When Yamraj reached his sister’s house, Yamuna was very happy to see him. The Yamuna took a bath and meditated on Yamraj. Then prepare delicious dishes and feed them with a lot of love. Pleased with this, Yamraj asked the Yamuna to ask for a boon. Now the Yamuna said, that brother, you come to my house every year on this day. Apart from this, like me, any sister who treats her brother with respect on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month should not be afraid of you. And then Yamraj went to Yamlok by saying ‘Atastu’ and giving money and food to the Yamuna.
And since then, on the second day of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month, people started celebrating the Bhai Dooj (2021). According to the english calendar, Bhai Dooj 2021 date in India is 6 November. On this day, sisters do Katha and puja for their brother. Then, by applying tilak on their brother’s forehead, the sisters pray to Lord Yamraj for his long life. Apart from this, sisters prepare and feed good dishes and sweets for their brothers. In return, brothers also give them blessings and gifts. In this way, The Celebration Of Diwali ends with Bhai Dooj.
