There’s A Very Logical Reason For This Unusual Circular Bridge

All, Did you know?
It’s not everyday that you set your eyes on a circular bridge - but there’s a very logical reason for this one. The Laguna Garzon bridge is located over a blue lagoon in Uruguay, and was only visible by boat prior to the bridge’s construction. But now, the $21 million development allows drivers to slow down and take in the awe inspiring sight properly - with more than 1,000 vehicles crossing every day. Argentine real estate developer Eduardo Constantini funded $10 million of the project, and described it as ‘iconic.’ He said: ‘It is an iconic architectural piece that will be a catalytic factor in driving the development of Rocha’s coastline. ‘Just 35% of the stretch between the two lagoons can be developed and 50% must be devoted to green areas.’ The bridge’s construction had been mo...

The case dates back to September 28, 2002 when the actor's SUV hit five people sleeping on a pavement in Bandra, Mumbai leading to the death of one person. Four others were injured in the incident. In May last year, a trial court had found the actor guilty handing him a five-year sentence, but the Bombay High Court overturned the trial court order in December letting the actor walk free. Mithali Raj: Women Come To Party With Record Chase

All, Cricket, Sports
Mithali Raj, Indian women’s cricket team captain, was a worried lady couple of days ago. Mithali Raj was fretting a bit about how her team would fare without much match practice, especially after their Sydney game was washed out. She needn’t have worried as India stunned World Cup winners Australia in the first T20 international game at Adelaide Oval by pulling off their highest ever chase in this format. source: internet Powered by Harmanpreet Kaur’s 31-ball 46, they chased down Australia’s 140 for 5 — India’s previous best chase was 128 for 7 against New Zealand last July — with eight balls to spare. Kaur, who is fondly known as Virender Sehwag of this women’s team, hit six fours and a six, and Veda Krishnamurthy, the No. 3 batter, chipped in with a 32-ball 35 to contribute t...

NASA Takes Part in Airborne Study of Southern Ocean

All, Info gyan, Science & Technology
A team of scientists has launched a series of research flights over the remote seas surrounding Antarctica in an effort to better understand how much carbon dioxide the icy waters are able to lock away. Called ORCAS, the field campaign will provide a rare look at how oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged between the air and the Southern Ocean. The campaign is led by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Michelle Gierach of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Pasadena, California, is a principal investigator, along with other scientists from a range of universities and research institutions. Carbon dioxide is the main greenhouse gas contributing to human-caused climate change. As more carbon dioxide has been released into the atmosphere by the burning of fossil fuels, t...

Robotic Eyes to Assist Satellite Repairs in Orbit

All, Info gyan, Science & Technology
NASA is developing and demonstrating technologies to service and repair satellites in distant orbits. Robotic spacecraft — likely operated with joysticks by technicians on the ground — would carry out the hands-on maneuvers, not human beings using robotic and other specialized tools, as was the case for spacecraft like the low-Earth-orbiting Hubble Space Telescope. This photograph looks closely at one of the tools that could be used for satellite servicing in the future: the Visual Inspection Poseable Invertebrate Robot (VIPIR), a robotic, articulating borescope equipped with a second motorized, zoom-lens camera that would help mission operators who need robotic eyes to troubleshoot anomalies, investigate micrometeoroid strikes, and carry out teleoperated satellite-repair jobs. NASA suc...

When global food prices spiked dramatically in late 2007 and into 2008, the costs of many basic dietary staples doubled or even tripled around the world, sparking protests and riots. Panicked governments stopped exporting food, aggravating the crisis. Almost as troubling: the crisis had taken the world by surprise. To keep it from happening again, international leaders created an agricultural monitoring group, bringing together representatives from governments and aid groups. The initiative, dubbed the Group on Earth Observation’s Global Agricultural Monitoring (GEOGLAM), looked in large part to data from Earth-imaging satellites, hoping to use it to make better predictions about weather and future crops. One of the key crops to monitor was rice. It is a majorfood staple...
